This fall there are a few coat trends I have my eye on, keeping in mind actually staying warm while looking good since I live in Canada. Such trends include the oversized puffer, the statement coat (print or shape), a bubblegum pink topper, metallics, and of course the beloved teddy trend from last year still sticking around. I’m currently searching for a coat that will transition me from warmer fall days into the colder fall days specifically because I’m heading to the UK in a couple weeks and it’s much colder there. Since I’ll be schlepping myself around the city being a tourist I need something that isn’t too heavy for the days that aren’t as cold and something I can pop a sweater under if it does drop a few degrees lower than expected. I have a few coats already from last year that are still “on trend”: the long denim with faux shearling lining, the faux shearling leather jacket, a small puffer, and a leopard coat but I’m just in need of a new basic that has a weeeee bit more warmth and sophistication. I’m leaning towards something of a soft plaid in a neutral colour scheme like the coat from Mango, or a wrap coat in a good camel colour (they’re always too long on my small frame). I guess you’ll see in photos to come which coat I fall through with. Get it, Fall through. Tried to make a pun happen. It didn’t. Let’s move on.

What jackets trends are you leaning towards purchasing this season?

“It’s so hard to be cute” is a statement I hear from friends all Winter long. Even though it’s been -25 degrees or worse out here in Canada I am really trying to be “cute” this year. I invested in a few good coats that are still warm and lots of trendy accessories to amp up my jeans and plain turtlenecks. I generally wear a lot of the same thing everyday as I’ve said many times before, so my best piece of advice is to invest in the accessory department; great coats with beautiful prints and details, bright and bold hats, scarves and gloves, and funky warm winter boots. It’s all in the small details that will set you apart from a sea of black puffer coats!

Winter Wardrobe Basics

For me, my wardrobe consists of A LOT of basics. I remember in the beginning of high school when I really started buying my own clothing etc how I would buy such strange/kooky clothes. At the time my parents would take me shopping to buy the basics and when I had spending money from babysitting or house sitting I would get to actually “shop”.  I would got to value village with friends and we would scour the racks for anything strange and interesting. Although I have some pretty unique pieces I still have from some of those trips, I am realizing that it’s time to invest in pieces of clothing that matter. In the winter months I wear a routine uniform of jeans, cute boots (when it’s not slush outside), and a turtleneck shirt. Where I like to spice things up is in the jacket department and accessories. Your jewellery can really amp up your outfits, and having multiple coats that you can switch up your look with is an easy winter investment; it will help you from feeling stale in the style department. Hope those tips help! Thanks for reading!
