Fall is around the corner (loud cry inside) and although I am a Summer baby, I have to come to truths that seasons change and I need a new pair of booties. There’s a few others on here that I’m craving once I was looking through “new arrivals” pages on brand’s sites, like the fluffy lamb flats and lamb printed pumps..theme? Any who, this season I need a good pair of black booties, looking at you Alexander Wang, and the rest is just dress-up!
Almost every street style savvy girl/guy has a variation of a silk bomber resting on their shoulders these days. I didn’t give into the trend right away because I didn’t want to purchase a fast-fashion version. I went out to the Spring edition of the Toronto Vintage Crawl recently on a mission to find the perfect bomber and I found it at the first store I popped into (as well as it being one of my favourite vintage shops in the city didn’t hurt,) Life of Manek. The colour and fact that it actually fit would have got me to purchase it anyways but guys it was $5! The vintage crawl is so great and supporting local shops is a shopping rule I live by. I hardly shop at any malls anymore unless I’m looking for something very specific that I’ve seen in a magazine, on another human or just browsing the new trends of the season.
This post contains some of the things I think every fashion conscious girl, even guy, should have readily available in their closet this Summer: colourful sunnies, a leather choker, checkered vans, denim overalls and a sweet coloured bomber jacket. Having just a few trendy pieces at affordable prices that you can seamlessly coordinate endless outfits with will make your life that much easier when getting dressed for the heat.
This jacket also brought back a really cute memory for my mother. I had it hanging up one day when I took it off and she looked at it like she saw a ghost. She said she couldn’t believe I was wearing that jacket and that she had owned practically the same one when she was younger, not to mention it was green. Her and all her girlfriends used to wear them together. I’ve always been inspired by my mom’s old photos and the fashions, but I had no IDEA her’s was green! Funny right!?
Clocks have gone back and temps have dropped, the only thing I’m impressed with is the extra hour of sleep. We’ve reached temperatures where we now have to wear legit coats. It’s tough living in a cold city and trying to be trendy and look warm and cute, because that I never am. Rudolph was made fun of for his red nose; I’m still waiting for my acceptance.
I really hope that one day I can either afford to move where it’s always above 25 degrees, or just jet-set for most of the winter months; a girl can dream! I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m Canadian I love snow and winter activities, but after christmas I’m way over it (snow has probably not even fallen by then). I’m being a tad sour and negative I apologize, but sorry not sorry, Winter is not my fave season. A warm to cool Fall and then right to Spring/Summer is where my head is at.
So since it always snaps to an ice kingdom, I decided this would be the year I put some $$ into a couple of “in-between” coats. The in-between period isn’t very long so I didn’t think spending on designer duds is a good financial decision. I went ahead and bought this vintage number while out in Kensington Market when the fall was still thankfully too warm to wear it. I’m really glad my friend convinced me to buy because it’s been getting a lot more love than I thought it would. WIN! I then went and purchased an over-sized red menswear inspired coat while on a thrift haul (coming soon to a blog post near you), and then grabbing a slightly oversized but more put together black coat from Forever 21 that I really like because it has texture, and we all know I’m into textured pieces lately. I’m hoping these will stay with me for the next few years as my essentials. Fingers crossed!
