Levis

Thrifty Threads

Value Village top, Levi’s shorts, H&M shoes, Value Village bag, Marc Jacobs sunglasses

This whole outfit is very “thrifty”. Either from value Village or on heavy sale, or found a discount store. I love a good deal! I like to invest in key pieces that will last me forever but when it comes to “trends” finding them at a deal is important. I’ve been really into this gingham trend lately and found this top at VV boutique and I was so surprised to find this piece there. It’s definitely an at home made piece, no tags or branding which made me want to buy it even more. I’m really into the floral detailing, it reminds me of something you would find on the Revolve website. Through blogging lately I’ve noticed how much of my wardrobe is either from VV or thrifted of which I love. I think all together this entire outfit cost less than $50! Win.

What Would WBDW Wear X The Canadian Tuxedo

Levis Jacket, Band Tee, Forever 21 Jeans, Yoki Loafers via Winners, Roots Bag, Public Butter Sunglasses

The doubled denim look, dubbed the “Canadian Tuxedo” by moments in Levis fashion history,  is something I wear often. I may be Canadian but that’s not why, I just find that I’m at my most comfortable in Denim, yes you can call me crazy. A flowy dress, or loose skirt for me is the complete opposite of comfortable. I’m always picking and pulling and making sure things are in place while wearing outfits like that, can you say stress!?

I think denim on denim has effortless personal style cred. It’s super easy and you don’t need to overthink what works and what doesn’t. I’d say what doesn’t work does! Doubling up your denim and mixing different shades is a fun task and I think you’ll be pretty pleased with the outcome. I personally love mixing different shades of the same shade ( if that made any sense) to create contrast. Light blue denim on an even lighter washed blue with say dark thread or coloured threading is something I would look at while styling this look. You can also get away with different shades of black on black; can you believe that! My personal fave for the summer is white on white, or a white denim jacket with super light washed blue mom jeans or light washed shorts/skirt. Seriously the combinations are absolutely endless. After that slip on a fun shoe and quirky bag and you’re good to go.

Some of my fave stores in Toronto to snag denim/vintage denim: House of Vintage,   Public Butter, Philistine, Mama Loves You Vintage, Value Village, Forever 21 (cheap can DIY), Urban Outfitters and Common Sort. The list goes on really…

Velvet Crush

velvet-crush-1Zara Blazer (Similar, Mango), Joe Fresh Denim Button Down (Similar), Vintage Levis Shorts, Donald J. Pliner Flats, Rebecca Minkoff MINI MAC Crossbody

Velvet is back this season, so says the entire fashion industry anyways, and I am into it. I bought this blazer at Zara like a million years ago and I’ve maybe worn in 5 times mostly to class presentations. I bought it because I have always had a slight obsession with velvet. It may be because when I was a kid I remember many of my favourite items I wore being velvet-this red dress I wore for christmas and class photos and this lilac gymnastics suit I continued to wear as a bathing suit well after I stopped going to gymnastics.

This blazer fit really well with all the cuts for the curves I do not have, and I figured was an easy throw-on piece for added structure. Sometimes as a more petite human adding structure to your outfit can be really helpful to shaping you and helping you look a little older even if you paired with boyfriend jeans and a baggy tee.

I love velvet because it’s such a rich texture that adds that extra note of cool to your outfit. Velvet is so underrated but now I’m seeing a huge welcoming to the fabric even in shoes this season. My fuzzy texture loving heart approves.

Summer Tuxedo

Denim 3

J.O.A. Top (Similar styles @ShopBop), Vintage Levis Shorts, BC California Slides, Joe Fresh Tote, DIY Choker, Bittersweet “t” Necklace for the boy, Urban Outfitters Anklet

Here is my Summer ode to the Canadian Tuxedo that I hold close to my fashion heart. Denim on denim is a look I clothe myself in often because I find it comfortable but still breaks the boundaries of fashion; side note I can sleep in denim no problem, I swear to you it’s my second skin.

I prefer lighter washed and lighter in feel denim during the summer months as it can get pretty hot in our urban jungle. Also, any denim with a fringy finish has my heart as I love the 70s and the carefree nature of dressing in that decade.
